At least two new ideas I learned about:
1. Hawaii's Kilavea has been spouting lava for 20 years, the longest nonstop eruption on record.
2. Some volcanoes erupt:
a. Explosively b. Spewing hot ash c. Gas d. Chunks of rock

At least one navigational strategy I used to locate information within a particular website:
There were numerous categories that were discussed about volcanoes on this website, so I was constantly pressing the "continue" button to read more. Each category about the volcanoes had visual slides. I wanted to go through all of the categories so I knew what kind of information I was dealing with. Then, after I was done viewing all of the information provided, I went back to review again the different categories and what each category discussed.

At least one reliable source of information about that topic (indicate how you decided the source was a reliable one):
I would rely on every piece of information from this website because the National Geographic was a resource of the information. I know that there is a National Geographic channel on television and a National Geographic magazine. I feel as though there are many materials that this resource supplies to our society that allows me to think that many people read and watch about this specific source of information. This makes me believe that the information provided in this website is factually valid and reliable.

At least one informational feature you found useful and developmentally appropriate for fourth graders studying this topic:
Throughout the fun and exciting slides, there were movie flicks that the viewer could click on to get a more visual aspect of the learning material. I think this is a good idea because on top of reading given information, watching a video about it supports the learning experience for the viewer.

Critical Thinking:
2. Think like a reporter on the news! If you were a newscaster, wouldn’t you want to make sure that the information you give to the world is valid and legitimate? You have a chance to do that now. Go to {http://dsc.discovery.com/convergence/pompeii/history/history.html} and find out if you would consider this a dependent and reliable website. What did you find that can justify your answer?
